As women of colour it is sometimes hard to find foundations with the right undertones or coverage and unfortunately sometimes the right shade. For the last four years I have tried a number of foundations and come across a selection of foundations I like.
My ultimate favourite foundation is the Mac studio fix fluid. This foundation has been used by many women of colour and is a go to for me when I want good coverage and I want a foundation that will stay matte for a good amount of time. It is affordable as it retails at just £24.50 and has a massive range of shades.
My favourite drugstore foundation is the Black Opal true colour stick foundation. This was the first stick foundations I used and so far the best. It gives full coverage and it blends very easily with a beauty blender. It retails for just £8.99 and can be found in drugstores or online. The only downside of this foundation is that it isn’t the best for oily skin as it doesn’t stay matte all day and needs touch ups to keep it looking fresh
The next best drugstore foundation I’ve come across is the NYX ‘stay matte but not flat’ liquid foundation. I came across it one day and it has become my go to when I want to use a matte foundation, but don’t want to use my high end ones. It retails for £7 and is quite good for the price. The only downsides to this foundation is the coverage which is buildable and also the foundation separates when left alone and needs to be shaken rigorously every time before use.
The third drugstore foundation I like to use is the Kiko skin evolution foundation. I came across this in secondary school and I really liked that it was affordable and did what wanted it to do. This foundation retails for about £13 and it’s honestly very good. The only thing is that… Kiko doesn’t have a huge shade range for women of colour and still haven’t introduced more shades after so many years. So they have stopped getting my support.
My favourite high end foundation is the Fenty Beauty foundation. This foundation is very similar to the MAC foundation, it stays matte for a long period of time and has full coverage. One thing I’ve heard many complain of is that this foundation oxidises but I don’t believe this is the case. Its just like all foundations, when you see the foundation in a bottle or swatch it on your hand it may look a certain tone to you. It will always look different once you have out it on your face and blended it. This is why I feel that when you go makeup shopping its important to go with a bare face so you can try out products directly on the skin. This foundation retails for £26 and I definitely recommend it.
Estee Lauder double wear foundation is another high end foundation I love. It stays matte all day and has a medium buildable coverage. This foundation has a great shade range and retails for £33.50 which is a little pricey but it is worth it.
These are a range of foundations I have tried and love. Comment below your go to foundations!
